The Truth Is There The Truth Is There Family Do
You Know If These Walls Could Talk O Holy Spirit The Way Of The Cross And I Do Believe The Perfect Thing Why Do We Believe Speak His Name Dear Jesus
THE TRUTH IS THERE Words and music by Ellen Soukup (Some complain that church just isn’t exciting
enough. I wrote this song to remind us that the real truth isn’t in the “entertainment” of
the church…it’s all around us)
I want to know what it is
you want of me. I want to break free from these lies of society. I want to walk
a road that’s led by You. I want to-find the answers to find what is really
true!
Refrain: The truth can be
found in Your amazing words. The truth can be found when gathered with two or
three. The truth can be found when I bow down to pray. When I look around the
truth is there!
I see my friends doin’ what
they want to do. I feel so left behind I don't know what I should do. I must go
on and seek your inner-light. I will stand firm on the rock for your love I
will always fight! Refrain
When I start to think of the
pain you endured for me, up on that cross and just to set me free. Gazing at
your image and spending time with you, I can find the answers with your church
be it many or few! Refrain
FAMILY Words and music by Ellen Soukup (God has a way of grounding us…I wrote this song
right after yelling at my kids!)
I guess I always knew I
belonged here; I guess I always knew my place. God fashioned me into a woman
with a purpose all too great. I wasn’t meant for fame or fortune; I was meant
for something big. God planted the seeds of the kingdom and they are all
surrounding me. And I want to thank You for the chance to be a mother. And I
want to thank You for the chance to be a wife. And I want to thank You for the chance
to daily struggle…struggle to eternal life.
I guess he always knew he
belonged here; I guess he always knew his place; as the central figure of the
family following Joseph’s lead and pace. He wasn’t meant for fame or fortune;
he was meant for something big. God planted the seeds of the kingdom and his
job is in His name. And he wants to thank You for the chance to be a husband.
And he wants to thank You for the chance to be a dad. And he wants to thank You
for the chance to daily struggle…and the struggle’s great to have.
When we feel the pull from
the outside. When the modern world rolls its eyes. We look all around our table
as God pulls us back from the lies. We see their bright and shining faces and
we thank God above, for making us a family, with Your tenderness and love. And
we want to thank You for the chance to be a family. And we want to thank You
for the chance to run the race. And we want to thank you for the chance to
daily struggle…to help each other see your face.
DO YOU KNOW Words and music by Ellen Soukup (This
one was inspired by an Easter homily from Fr. Jim Benton…Thanks for your
inspirations! May
this one remind us of the sanctity of human life)
Do you know, what He did for
us on that Easter morn? God glorified humanity, by sending us His Son. Just
imagine a human being, living in the Trinity. And He is truly God who gave His
life for me!
IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK Words and music by Ellen Soukup (Some people I know that were going through difficult
times inspired this song.)
If these walls could talk,
they would say. “Ah, there she goes again. She’s getting’ down on herself and
thinkin’ she’s alone.” I’ve forgotten ‘bout my Savior. If these walls could
talk, they would say. “She’s forgotten ‘bout His cross. She’s forgotten that He
died to take away her sin.” And no pain of mine is greater.
Refrain: And when the grief is hard to bear, I come to you
on bended knee. 'Cause it is there I feel safe and secure. And I will vow to
you this day to always stay close and to pray. ‘Cause it’s not fair to come
when I am blue…only when I'm blue.
If these walls could talk,
they would say. “Look at the way she is so fearful. He endured the spit and
jeers to take away her fears.” So I shall one day be in heaven. If these walls
could talk, they would say. “She’s forgotten of His love. She’s caught up in
this world and makin’ up excuses.” And I will try to do better. Refrain
If these walls could talk
they would say. “Look now she’s getting’ better. She’s comin’ to you in thanks
and holdin’ her head up high.” And I won’t forget my Savior!” Refrain
O HOLY SPIRIT Words and music by Ellen Soukup (This is co-written with my husband John. He wrote a
beautiful letter to Jesus one day, and it inspired this song)
There was a time I felt in
the dark. All was so heavy in my heart. And I led people astray. Until Your
light showed me the way. I pray for courage to ask and say.
Refrain: O Holy Spirit, Fill me with Your love. As You
consume me with your fire of life from up above. O Holy Spirit, light my path
to You. So I may feel the things that need to burn with Your truth.
Why is the dark so easy to
find and getting out means leaving friends behind? I need Your light. Shine on
me so bright. So I may be radiant in your sight. Refrain
So keep your holy beam in my
hand, focused on the light from heavens land. Light my path; shine my way. Lord
hold me steady every day! Refrain
THE WAY OF THE CROSS Words and music by Ellen Soukup (This song was the hardest song to write. I hope it
will be meditative.)
Refrain: We Adore You, O Christ and we bless You. Because
by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
Jesus is condemned to death.
He carries His cross and He falls. Teach me to carry my cross with patience.
Help me to take up my daily burdens. I repent with my whole heart. I love You
more than myself. Refrain
Jesus meets His mother and
is helped by Simon. Veronica wipes His beautiful face. My sins have caused the
blood on Your face. Yet how many times have You pardoned me? I weep for my
sins. May I exemplify Your love. Refrain
He falls again and meets the
women of Jerusalem. He falls the third time and is stripped of His garments.
Help me to strip myself of earthly things, so that I’ll place all my love in
You. May I never offend You again. Do with me what You will. Refrain
Jesus is nailed to the cross
and He dies. He is taken down and laid in the tomb. Impress upon my heart,
faith, hope and love. Your bones were numbered in my name. May I be worthy of
Your death, and rise glorious with You! Refrain
AND I DO BELIEVE Words and music by Ellen Soukup (I love gospel
music, and this is a declaration of what I believe)
Jesus
walked this earth among the people, speaking of repentance and of peace. If
we've gone astray He is patient, waiting and wanting our return. Jesus welcomes
sinners as a shepherd joyfully welcoming us home. What joy will resound up in
heaven when just one sinner walks through His door.
Refrain: And I do believe in Your saving power! And I do
believe that your finest hour will come into my heart with your saving grace!
Yes I, I do believe!
When
I have the faith of a mustard seed, seeking your kingdom as a child. Then and
only then can I place myself… place myself at the foot of your throne. There
isn't salvation in anyone else. Don't foolishly trust in evil's disguise. There
is no other name except Jesus by which we are to be saved. Refrain
In
the midst of life's trials and fears joy can come from within. If we place our
lives with the Spirit, we will live in His ultimate design. So I must place my
trust in God and not in possessions great or small. For blessed is the poor in
Spirit the reign of God is truly their own. Refrain
THE PERFECT THING Words and music by Ellen Soukup (Based on Romans
12:1-2, 9-18. What a way to live!)
I
want to think of God’s mercy, and worship Him in a way that is worthy. I will
not model my life around the world. My new mind will center around You. I will
become a new and thinking being and I will offer up myself as a sacrifice. I
will not let my love be for show and I will prefer good to evil.
Refrain: This is the only way to discover the will of God.
This is the only way to know what is good. This is the only way to do what God
wants. This is the perfect thing to do, to always live in peace with you.
I will love others as much
as a brother and have profound respect for all those around me. I will work
untiring for the Lord with determination of spirit. I will have hope and this
will make me cheerful and I will not give up if my life is tested. I will keep
praying through all of my trials and I will share with those around me. Refrain
I
will bless those who persecute me and I will never utter evil against them. I
will rejoice with those who rejoice and I will be sad with those in sorrow. I
will treat everyone with equal kindness and I will make real friends with the
poor. I’ll not allow myself to become self-satisfied. I’ll only strive for the
highest ideals. Refrain
WHY DO WE BELIEVE? Words and music by Ellen Soukup (I get this question so often: “Why do you Catholics
believe in Mary?” Here is my answer.)
Oh why do we believe in you?
Why do we turn to you? Because you were there throughout His life. You were
there to say yes to God, a mother to the chosen one, at the temple He filled
Simeon with joy!
Refrain: So I turn to you, I don’t worship you but I will
mirror you forever. Think in me speak through me work in me! So that holy is my
labor, my rest filled with your Son!
And after three long days,
you found Him in the temple and gently lead Him home. At the wedding feast at
Cana, through your intersession, you said do whatever He tells you! Refrain
You were at His crucifixion
suffering the pain and sorrow and felt the shame through which He died. He said
John there is your mother, woman there's your Son, and we believe He gave you
to us all! Refrain
And after His awesome
resurrection, you witnessed the Holy Spirit’s signs. All nations shall call you
blessed because you always lead us to your Son. Refrain
SPEAK HIS NAME Words and music by Ellen Soukup (Inspired by the book “The Wonders of the Holy Name” by Fr. Paul O’Sullivan, O.P. and a very old Litany to
Jesus)
Jesus, Son of the living
God, splendor of the Father, Jesus King of Glory. Jesus, the mighty God, most
powerful, Father of the world to come.
Refrain: Speak His name when you want to pray to Him. Speak His name and
give Him all your love. Speak His name and offer God the merits of His Son.
Speak Jesus’ name.
Jesus, God of peace, most
patient, lover of chastity. Jesus, author of life, example of virtues, Jesus
our refuge. Refrain
Jesus,
treasure of the faithful, our good shepherd, Father of the poor. Jesus, eternal
wisdom, infinite goodness, our way and our life. Refrain
DEAR JESUS Words and music by Ellen Soukup, refrain by Gesanbuch, 1891 (This was
inspired by the kids at St. John the Apostle school. Lets all pray that our
children, grandchildren
and Godchildren and the many more to come will stay close to the sacraments.)
Dear
Jesus I place our children at Your feet Dear Jesus bind them to your Sacred
Heart and keep. Keep them close with Your tender care, keep them by Your side,
keep them firmly bound to You, to Your sacrament divine. O Jesus we adore thee
who in thy love divine, conceal thy mighty Godhead in forms of bread and wine.
Refrain: O sacrament most holy O sacrament divine.
All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
Dear
Jesus bless our children for generations to come. Dear Jesus watch our family
help them always know You're the one. Your name invokes a smile on my face,
help them know that joy, help them know that their lives aren't their own, that
Your love they cannot destroy. O Jesus we adore thee our Savior and our King.
Let us all together a humble homage bring. Refrain
Dear
Jesus take my children to Your Sacred Heart for me.
